“Silver fern” project was a challenge and an experiment. It was a competition entry between me and another architect. The competition was called Urban Village – Residential complex in Christrchurch, New Zealand. Even though I had some experience in New Zealand architecture as I did my internship there, I didn`t quite get the idea that the organisers were really looking for a complex, which is more like a village. For me this was merely a metaphore in the name for residential complex. Anyways, the result of this joint venture is different from what I would do if I did the competition on my own, but I believe competitions are exactly for experiments like this. I used “Silver fern” later also for my studies before I graduated and continued working on it to the Technical design stage for one section of the project.
